In case you missed our recent snap story we thought it would be cool to recap our cushion cut halo engagement ring comparison post. Imagine this: a 3 carat cushion cut diamond set in a seamless custom halo. Would you believe us if we told you that two 3 carat cushion halo engagement rings can look completely different from a bird's eye view. It is true! So many factors contribute to the look of a particular ring and just because two rings are 3 carats with cushion halos does not instantaneously mean that they will appear similar.
Let's start with option 1.
This is a take a on our ever popular RS-61 design. The center diamond is a 3 carat perfectly square cushion brilliant style diamond. This means there is no crushed ice effect to the faceting resulting in amazing impact of sparkle from the diamond similar to brilliance of a round cut diamond. The RS-61 setting features a double edge halo of very fine diamonds along the surface of the design for a dainty and seamless effect.
Note: A 3 carat cushion will be in the 8-9mm length range depending on if it is square, in between, or elongated. If the diamond is more square assume the length to become shorter. However it will make up for the loss in length by filling out on the width.
Now let's compare this to option 2: VNR-12340. This special ring features an elongated cushion cut center diamond which is 9mm in length. The halo setting in this particular ring design features micropave set diamonds that are larger than usual. The larger than usual diamonds give a huge statement to the ring and really maximize the surface area you get from the halo. Essentially you can get a more clear sense for each individual diamond therefore adding more sparkle to the ring with the bigger stones. See how much larger and more defined the diamonds are on the VNR-12340. Click the image on the right to go to the website page and see the video of this ring.
When you hold these two rings side by side and even trying them on you can automatically understand what we mean by "3 carat cushion halo ring" simply being too vague! The carat size doesn't determine the shape and a halo alone doesn't determine the surface area you will get.
The square cushion will give a more compact sparkle and take up more on the width of your finger. The elongated cushion will take up a lot more length on your hand and can sometimes give the illusion of being a bigger diamond on your hand because of that fact. The smaller halo diamonds on RS-61 create a more glittery and delicate appearance to the halo. The larger halo diamonds on the VNR-12340 create a more bright bold look and maximize surface area.
Keep in mind you can mix in match between the styles. For example a square cushion in a VNR-12340 setting for a perfectly symmetrical look or opt for the RS-61 with an elongated cushion for a more modern effect. On the hand, an elongated center surrounded by larger diamonds will take up a lot more space. If size is a big factor then keep that in mind!
