Forecasting the Top Four Engagement Ring Trends of 2016

Some great new engagement ring fads were born last year and we expect many of them to last for several years to come.   With an eye towards the future, here we will take a look ahead at some trending styles that we expect to rise to the forefront in 2016. Remember just because it is a trend does not mean it will not last.

#1 Subtle Details and Craftsmanship:

Big and bulky is certainly out and now, more than ever, there is a great desire for delicate looking rings that include understated touches of detail.  Creating these style of rings requires extreme precision and care to ensure not only a beautiful appearance but durability as well.  These finely detailed rings keep the focus on the center-stone and also allow for someone to own a custom piece that is especially personal to them.  Some popular styles that we have in mind are adding an extra edge of pave along the halo and including a wrap of diamonds beneath a main stone which will give your ring great appeal from the profile while maintaining a clean, elegant look when viewed face on.

Pear shape micropave engagement ring#2 Elongated Center-Stones:

the demand for longer cut diamonds as the main stone for an engagement ring is rapidly on the rise. Whether it is naturally long cut diamonds like ovals, pears, emeralds and marquise or rectangular versions of cushions and radiant cuts, people love the way these shapes flatter their hand and provide increased finger coverage.  They work especially well with delicate pave designs and provide a nice overhang on the setting to stand out even more.  While ovals were a hot seller last year, we expect the once dormant pear shape and marquise diamonds to rise to the forefront as well.  In general these diamonds give the allusion of a larger diamond of the same carat weight and thus providing a great value.

Diamonds will always be a girl's best friend but nothing says unique, and appealing more than a vibrant natural color gemstone.  With such a large variety of precious and semi-precious gemstones to choose from in ever color of the rainbow the options are endless and customizing your ring could never be so personal.  These more affordable alternatives to the traditional diamond center-stone are slowly starting to see a reassurance in popularity.  Morganite gemstones in particular have piqued many people's interest as people are absolutely in love with its subtle pink peachy color that looks great in most any ring design- see design SOR-13807 from www.laurenb.com.  If using a color gem as the center-stone in your ring is too much for you, many find different ways of incorporating them into their rings such as placing their fiancee's birthstone on the underside of the ring.

Two-tone halo engagement ring#4 Two-Tone Designs:

Rose gold rings were all the craze in 2015, but looking ahead we expect more designs that incorporate multiple metal colors into one engagement ring.  Whether it is doing the band in yellow and the entire top part in white or having a platinum ring just adding a strip of rose gold around the edge of the halo, there are many different combinations to consider.  These little customizations not only allow your ring to stand out and be unique, but create some aesthetically pleasing contrasts.  Also, many people love the idea of a rose or yellow gold ring but are concerned the color of the metal may bleed into the center-stone causing it to look darker than its natural colorless appearance.  The solution to this is having a ring with a white gold or platinum top to preserve the color of the main diamond and creating the band in rose or yellow gold.
