March Birthstone of the Month: Aquamarine

Aquamarine is the birthstone for March.  This blue green gem is perfect for setting into jewelry - from rings to pendants to earrings. At Lauren B. we celebrate the aquamarine gemstone by showcasing it combined with our distinctive designs.

All About Aquamarine

The aquamarine is of the beryl family, like a green emerald gemstone. They have a hardness rating of 7.5-8 on the Mohs scale of gemstone durability. Therefore it is perfectly suitable for everyday wear.

Color

The name Aquamarine translates to "seawater". Consequently it is symbolic of calm waves and represents protection, tranquility, and unity.  This colored stone complements other gemstones and any metal color you set it in. Aquamarines can sometimes appear faint or near colorless. However, this is true for more shallow aquamarines. Therefore, deeper cuts will have more color saturation. As a result, aquamarines can be color treated to enhance their color as well. This gem also has the ability to show color differently from depending on which direction it is turned.

Fun Facts
